A fire broke out in a basement kitchen of an Indian restaurant in Manchester back in 2015.
More than 60 firefighters fought the blaze at the Grade II listed building which actually houses several restaurants which all share the same extraction ducting. The fire was cut off and did not spread further than the ground floor.
The ducting and extraction system of a commercial kitchen is required to be cleaned regularly and to TR19 standards to ensure the safety of the kitchen as well as the cleanliness if the kitchen and equipment.
Had the restaurant kitchen and equipment been cleaned to TR19 standards this fire could have been prevented.
