In September 2016 a Chinese restaurant in Wickford found itself in serious breaches to public health as it had been found to have committed 13 food hygiene related offences.
This cost the business more than £10,000.
On inspection the kitchen was fund to be filthy with layers of food waste and grease, broken food containers were being used and the extraction filters of the kitchen's extraction system were clogged with grease. A major fire risk.
The smallest amount of grease and fat could have been the instigator of this fire in the restaurant's kitchen. This in turn could have lead to the fire spreading through the extraction system and into the roof. If the extraction system had not been cleaned to industry standards this could have been the cause of the fire which is of yet still unknown.
